Downhole Environment

Oil & gas downhole tools see temperatures of 150 – 200+ °C, pressures of 10,000 – 30,000 psi, and exposure to crude oil, brine, H2S, CO2, and drilling fluids. Few materials survive. PEEK and filled PTFE are the workhorses for non-metallic components.

Common Components We Supply

• PEEK seal carriers: Hold elastomeric seals in place at temperature. PEEK doesn't extrude past gland clearances the way softer plastics do.
• PEEK back-up rings: Energize HNBR or FKM elastomer seals against extrusion at high differential pressure.
• Glass-filled PTFE wear bands: Centralize moving parts in stationary housings; tolerate downhole abrasive content.
• Carbon-filled PTFE bearings: Where rotation under high pressure is required (e.g. measurement-while-drilling tools).

Material Notes

For 200 °C+ service we supply PEEK-CF30 (30% carbon-filled) for higher creep resistance. For aggressive H2S service we recommend going up to PEK or PEKK grades — please specify when inquiring.
